WE BETTER FIND OUT IF WE'RE READY FOR DISASTERS!

Before anything else, let us all pray for the eternal rest of the souls of those who died, as well as the survival of the wounded, in the killer quake that struck Japan yesterday.

We had also better start asking our mayors, congressmen and governors on how prepared are our cities and towns in the event of a sudden tragedy like the Japan quake.

How prepared or are there even any preparations at all. Not just for earthquakes but for all possible disasters like fires, typhoons and floods, landslides, tornadoes, everything.

Una sa lahat, mayroon na bang nakatalagang evacuation centers na tatakbuhan ng mga residente sa oras ng trahedya? Alam na ba ito ng mga residente  ngayton pa lamang?

Remember ladies and gentlemen, our OFWs and their loved ones  were like RATS which were SCATTERED over several countries  in fleeing Libya.

Here at home, it’s common to see fleeing residents wandering aimlessly or waiting for guidance from anybody on where to go during typhoons of fires.

That’s why the next question is are there ENOUGH personnel assigned to evacuation centers and other relief duties in case of disasters?

Lalong lalo na mga doctor at nurse, para magamot agad ang mga sugatan at may sakit para maagapan agad ang anumang epidemic.

Related to this, are there enough funds for disaster relief, especially for FOOD AND MEDICINES? Are these funds checked and audited regularly to ensure that these are not being STOLEN?

Are there standing arrangements with stores and manufacturers from whom IMMEDIATE PURCHASES can be made once tragedy strikes, especially sudden and unforeseen ones like earthquakes and fires?

We should also find out now if our towns and cities have enough equipment and trained personnel, especially EXPERTS, for rescue operations like the retrieval of people trapped in collapsed buildings.

LAYTON WELSH of Scotts Valley, California, USA on “What makes oil firms so untouchable, so sacred?”:

I’ts only because we allow them to be so. If people would band together and not buy gasoline for weeks, you will see a big change in the prices. We now have the technology to get completely off oil. The money has to change hands from an oil-based economy to a green- based economy. They have had, for years, engines that run off hydrogen. I get angry when I see billions posted for profits every quarter for these blood-sucking leeches. It’s only a matter of when people are going to finally say no to the oil companies. 30

  1. I did a project on disaster planning when I was completing my nursing education here in America as one of the requirements for graduation. My group targeted the families as our learners since we have to start in a small unit. We tailored a brochure for distribution that include the necessities needed in packing an emergency kit to take along. Each family was thought to put aside supplies like batteries, flashlight, candles, matches or lighter, toilet paper, tissues, a bottle or 2 drinking water, acetaminophen, gauzes, canned goods, crackers etc. And every two months or less the family will check them for missing items and for expiration. That way, the family can get over small issues while the govt is busy saving the population in large scale. Students should be thought The basic of
CPR so that if the EMS/Emt cannot get to the area where they are needed the family members can start giving life support to friends, neighbors or even family members. Remember, the first 10 minutes is crucial to a person's survival. It's better to start CPR than not taking any step at all. The Dep Ed should include this in the curriculum as well.

  2. Ijust glanced on the internet the list of provinces in the Philippines that were identified on alert for a possibility of a tsunami one of these day. I only remembered Surigao del Sur and Surigao del Norte since my boyfriend lives there :). I agree with Mr. Antonio. The local government unit must do something in advance to ensure the safety of our fellow Filipinos. My boyfriend said their town is on Alert 2 already. This is the time they must act quickly or else many lives might be taken again by such calamity.

  3. I agree. Every government should have a plan in effect to deal with such catastrophic disasters that occur. As we get closer to the elliptical plane of the Milk Way on December 21st, 2012 the gravitational pull of a super massive black hole is at its strongest. Science has proven that each time we go into the alignment every 68,000 years the earth suffers a catastrophic changes. As you have seen since we started to enter this alignment in 2008 that there has been a dramatic increase in dramatic weather changes, earth quakes and volcanic eruptions. The Poles are now moving and as well scientists are working with computer models of the earth to determine the extend of damages from a pole shift. What is more intriguing is why the governments of the world has built two super massive seed storage facilities and have been stocking them with seeds of every kind. Common sense would prevail here. What is it that the world leaders know that they are not sharing with humanity. Are they fearful of a pandemic if the truth was to be told to every one? Why has Nasa put a observatory at the South Pole to monitor the fabled planet Niburu that ancient civilizations have seen and fore told about. Make no mistake, we are living in troubled times and the earth is in travail as a woman in child birth.

  4. I really don't know if we can prepare for a disaster, any disaster. We don't even know when and where a disaster would strike. To paraphrase a passage from the Bible, it comes like a thief in the night. Each time a disaster strikes, we talk about preparedness but how come that eacg tie a disaster takes place, we are always caught flatfooted> If there should be any readiness it should be on building durable structures that could withstand disasters like earthquake and typhoons or other practical ways to cushion the impact of disasters. As a former atheist who have returned to the Faith, I can only say that man's best security is prayers and faith in God. I hope you don't misunderstand me as among the so-called religious fanatics. As I say it in my book, The Gypsy Soul and Other Essays, in life's journey I use reason as my rudder but faith as my compass. I encourage you to keep on reading my friend, Boyet Antonio, but if you have time try to visit also in my blogsite "salt-romblonwriter.blogspot.com. My blog is Salt of Life where I often discuss the application of Faith in our secular life.
