SUBPOENA BANK ACCOUNTS OF GARCIA PROSECUTORS1

The Senate’s plan to start investigating the prosecutors who agreed to the Carlos Garcia plea bargain for bribery is a step in the right direction.

But If I could have it my way, I will SUBPOENA the bank accounts of all these prosecutors AS SOON AS POSSIBLE or immediately start any required procedure to do so.

And while waiting for the subpoena, I will begin a lifestyle check of these guys.

Not just the usual scrutiny of all available financial records of assets but a lifestyle probe that will include surprise and on-the spot inspections of their homes and belongings.

All I have to do is check on the declared source of income of the owner on record to see if he or she earns enough to afford a new car.

As I had written in an earlier blog, I’ll inquire from friends and acquaintances of the prosecutors if any of them suddenly went on a trip, domestic or international.

Of if they had been treated by any of the prosecutors to drinking sessions and lavish lunches or dinners for days on end.

Remember, ladies and gentlemen, Garcia’s MULTI-MILLION assets include the following:

A condominium unit worth $765,000 or roughly P40 million at the time of purchase in one of the MOST EXPENSIVE areas in New York City in the US; seven vehicles worth P4 million plus, 11 real estate properties, businesses and multi-million bank deposits.

All these riches for a military general with a monthly salary of ONLY P37,000.

And most of all, Garcia’s wife ADMITTED ON RECORD that their wealth came from  people who were awarded military contracts when he was the Armed Forces’ comptroller.

So how can all these still be weak evidence vs Garcia? The prosecutors say, among others, that no contractor has come forward to admit giving bribes to Garcia.

Granted that it’s the case, the FACT REMAINS that Garcia AMASSED HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS in cash and properties WITHOUT a legally proven source.
