HOUSE TOLERATING DRUG USERS WITH SINGSON CASE!

If the House of Representatives starts getting accusations of tolerating DRUG USERS among its ranks, it should not be surprised, and DISAPPOINTED.

For the simple reason that up to now, it has refused to act on the case of confessed drug user Ilocos Sur Rep. Ronald Singson.

Despite Singson’s recent conviction in Hong Kong, the clamor for his ouster, the call by no less than Speaker Sonny Belmonte for his resignation and most of all, the SHAME he had brought to House, and the country.

Even if Singson was caught and convicted in Hong Kong, he already had the cocaine when he went there from Manila.

Therefore, he had already VIOLATED the law against illegal drugs. That violation entails penalties. And even if I’m not a lawyer, I’d bet 1000 to 1 that even congressmen are NOT EXEMPT or above the law.

So what else is the House waiting for?

Don’t tell me a RETRACTION from Singson of his admission of his guilt. Or a JUSTIFICATION of  his possession and self-confessed use of illegal drugs.

The Singson case is not just simply another conviction of a Filipino for illegal drugs.

The CRITICAL POINT here is our lawmakers are NOT ACTING, YET,  on a SELF-CONFESSED VIOLATOR of the law just because he is one of them.

It sends a signal that congressmen can do anything they want, LEGAL OR ILLEGAL.

Yes. i was there to cover for People's Journal on the first day of EDSA I. Me kuha pa nga ako na nasa likod nina JPE at Ramos habang nagpi-presscon, announcing their breakaway from FM, at Camp Aguinaldo. The rest is history. But the sad thing is me nabago ba after EDSA 1?

LET'S NOT FORGET JPE, FVR, HONASAN FOR EDSA 1!

May Senators Juan Ponce Enrile and Gringo Honasan, former President Fidel Ramos. the Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM) and all EDSA 1 personalities get the PROPER RECOGNITION they deserve from now on.

That together with the late former President Cory Aquino, they also brought back democracy to our country.

I’m sure Mrs. Aquino would not mind it from where she is now.

Let’s set the record straight shall we, especially for those who were not born yet during EDSA 1.

Yes, Mrs. Aquino had the courage to face former President Ferdinand Marcos head-on even though she was a plain housewife then. From the rallies after Ninoy’s assassination to the snap elections.

But her zeal and patriotism were not enough to convince the people to swoop down, and hold fort, on EDSA for three days to force Marcos out of office.

That was the only time the people TOOK OVER EDSA.

It was only then that they turned themselves into a human barricade against the tank crews and foot soldier still loyal then to Marcos.

Butz Aquino and the late Jaime Cardinal Sin called out for people power on EDSA, yes, but only after they learned of what Enrile and Honasan’s group had done.

Neither did Butz and their followers openly take up arms against Marcos. These are FACTS. And in fairness to Enrile, Honasan, Ramos and RAM, they are not asking for recognition.

NEW ZEALAND QUAKE SHOWS POOR DFA PREPARATIONS!

The New Zealand earthquake shows how poorly prepared is the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for disasters.

First, there are NO RESCUE TEAMS on standby, either here or in New Zealand, for the quake victims, considering that we have countrymen trapped in the rubble of a collapsed building.

We would not be in a PATHETIC situation now to ask the New Zealand government to continue rescue operations if there had been standing arrangements with disaster response agencies or private firms there before the quake.

We’re just asking. So if the New Zealand government  stands pat on its decision to shift from rescue to retrieval operations,  what do we do?

Move back and start crying while saying goodbye, or see you in Heaven, to our trapped kababayans?

Reports say that a lot of Pinoy survivors whose homes were either damaged or lost had to move in temporarily with our countrymen who were not affected by the quake.

That means there’s NO PRE-DETERMINED shelter for disaster victims before the quake struck.

Reports also say that most, but NOT ALL, communication lines in New Zealand remain down.  But if top telecommunications companies with satellite capabilities had been identified from the start, relay of the latest and accurate information would not be a problem.

These are BASIC PREPARATIONS which should have been conceived ever since by the DFA.

I sure hope the acting secretary will go through the DFA budget with a fine toothed comb.  And our guys in New Zealand owe the people, especially the families of the trapped, a LONG EXPLANATION.

CAS NAVARRO of Colorado, USA:

The RP-PROC diplomatic row is a comedy of errors. Our diplomatic faux pas even dates back to the day we signed a pact with the PROC. What gets me is the stupidity of our officials to allow ourselves to get so embroiled in the internal political conflict that is supposed to be exclusively between the Chinese leaders (PROC and Taiwan). This went on for decades until another - the latest - stupidity was committed by the boys of PNoy. Now,, PNoy ought to show us that he really can walk well on the diplomatic tight rope.

BHABY SEE of Makati:

I think there's no need to look into it. It's about time for PH to show that Pinoys mean business. Try to ask any pure Chinese or local Chinese here about the traits of Taiwanese.

I also believe that this is a conspiracy among PSALM,  NAPOCOR, independent power producers and Meralco.. We ordinary citizens are bailing them out from their losses, apart from deceitful charges they are imposing to rob us.

PNOY SHOULD PERSONALLY LOOK INTO TAIWANESE DEPORTATIONS!

I hope that President Aquino will PERSONALLY take a SECOND, HARD LOOK into the deportations of 14 Taiwanese into China that sparked the diplomatic crisis we’re now facing with Taiwan.

With the help of the best, of the best, legal and foreign policy experts he can invite or recruit as soon as possible. I’m not ruling out the possibility that Noynoy may have been MISINFORMED or MISLED into his steadfast decision not to apologize to Taiwan over the deportations.

But Justice Sec. Leila de Lima, who is also the BI boss, said the deportations still pushed through that same day because there was no restraining order.

De Lima IGNORED the Court of Appeals (CA). She MOCKED the CA by defying its order on the very same day it had directed her people to do so.

De Lima said the Taiwanese did not show proof of their citizenship.

Now, not only are there cracks in PH-Taiwan relations but the livelihood of 100,000 of our kababayans working there are at stake. As well as the hopes and opportunities for a better life of thousands of others qualified to work in Taiwan.

If only for the fact that the deportations were HASTILY carried out despite a court order,
De Lima must be asked to explain The CA justices could have provided VALUABLE inputs on how to handle the Taiwanese deportees.

De Lima said China and Taiwan should settle their differences between themselves. Then, she should not have HASTILY gotten us into differences with Taiwan in the first place.

CAS NAVARRO of Colorado, USA:

Perhaps, the coyote in Lauro Vizconde tells him that all of us are so naive and would believe just anything he says. By that alone, he is insulting our capacity to think with logic. First, I am morally convinced that neither CJ (Chief Justice Rene) Corona nor AJ (Associate Justice Antonio) Carpio or anyone among our current crop of magistrates ever desire to see our justice system crumble.

Second, only men who are either filled with anger and contempt and the mob are prone to irrationality or intentional insanity. I sympathize with him on the fate that had befallen his family, but anyone who can stand him may please tell him that he stands to see more people helping him if he can at least just keep his mouth shut.

CASIANO MAYOR of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia:

I don't easily believe Vizconde either. To me he should have planted a small seed of Faith in his heart, take a look at the Christian virtue of forgiving and just let the wheel of justice take its course. We have to move on, whether we like it or not. Life in this world is futile, just like chasing the winds, as the Bible says, but then we have to live it. There's no other recourse. But we should not also be callous with Vizconde's predicament and feeling. I believe that he should leave the past behind. Wallowing in his grief will not do him any good.

MA. JENNAH MITRA of Quezon City:

I can understand where Mr. Vizconde is coming from. However, I think it will be better for him to move on and allow GOD's hand to completely heal him. Time is running out and life is short considering his age. Let the remaining years of his life be peaceful and allow him to experience a new life.

CORONA AS VIZCONDE WHISTLE-BLOWER DOUBTFUL!

The claim of Lauro Vizconde that Chief Justice Rene Corona was the one who had tipped him off about efforts to railroad the acquittal by the Supreme Court of Hubert Webb and company is VERY, VERY DOUBTFUL.

On a scale of 1 to 10, I’d give it a 1. And for the record, I’m not working for Corona or the Supreme Court.

Consider the following, guys:

Corona is NOT STUPID to categorically reveal something as sensitive as that to Vizconde, and purportedly in the presence of another person, WITHOUT presenting proof.

Corona will not risk incurring PUBLIC OUTRAGE  and SCRUTINY with a declaration he cannot prove, even if he indeed had his own suspicions.

If Vizconde’s allegation is true, Corona is SMART ENOUGH to realize that he would be a hero and a national icon of justice if he would stop the purported railroading of the freedom of Webb and his gang.

Corona is already the BOSS, the CHIEF JUSTICE.

Why would he still go for anything that may destabilize his position, or place him on the proverbial ‘hot seat?’ Especially if it WON’T GET HIM ANYWHERE?

For those who will say that Corona may have had an axe to grind, the more realistic move for him would have been to get back at the alleged brains of the railroading, Associate Justice Antonio Carpio, in the Supreme Court itself, as the boss to a subordinate.

Instead of something that will cast a cloud of suspicion over his reputation.

And most of all, Vizconde COULD NOT BE 100 percent sure that Corona had categorically revealed the railroading to him.

In today’s issue of the Inquirer, Vizconde was quoted as saying that Corona “to the best of my recollection, said the following words: Talagang binabraso at iniimpluwensyahan ni Carpio ang kanyang mga kasama para mapawalang-sala si Webb, or words to that effect.”

We all understand what “words to that effect mean, don’t we?”

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I’m for the truth in the massacre of Vizconde’s wife and two daughters.

But unless there is SOLID EVIDENCE, Vizconde does not have the right to make sweeping accusations that can damage or destroy an individual’s reputation anytime he wants.

WITH ONLY HIS WORDS as proof.

"LOKOHAN NA, PAKAPALAN PA NG MUKHA SA PSALM PART 2!

The Department of Energy (DOE) and other government agencies should not wait for Congress to conduct an in-depth probe of Napocor and the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM).

The records of ALL FINANCIAL transactions of both Napocor and PSALM must be SECURED and AUDITED at once.

The audit should be done with FULL MEDIA COVERAGE, from start to finish, to prove to the people that NOTHING IS BEING HIDDEN by anybody from anyone.

Finance officials and personnel of both PSALM and Napocor should be RELIEVED, or better yet SUSPENDED, immediately to prevent them from HIDING or ALTERING records and documents.

And I mean all finance officials and personnel, from the managers down to the cashiers or disbursing officers.

If I’d be the investigator, I would readily check the statements of assets and liabilities of these guys and compare the documents  against their homes and possessions or lifestyle.

I’ll also check Immigration records to find out who has been the most frequent traveler since joining Napocor or PSALM.

And I’ll definitely go over the salary scale, perks and other expenses for personnel, especially for the TOP EXECUTIVES, of both Napocor and PSALM

Which only PROVES HOIW INCOMPETENT they are, and therefore definitely not deserving of monstrous paychecks and benefits.

To be frank about it, Napocor and PSALM officials should have the DECENCY TO RESIGN for consistently plunging the two firms into DEBT and losses.

While RELIGIOUSLY pushing us consumers to DEEPER and DARKER levels of hardship, if not POVERTY, with sky-high electricity bills.

And last but definitely not the least, I would examine office and operating expenses as well as ALL CONTRACTS entered into by both Napocor and PSALM.

This is the best way to describe the plan of the Power Sector Assets and Liabilities Management Corp. (PSALM) to ask the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) for a 12-15 centavo increase in power rates next month.

And if the ERC approves this increase WITHOUT A THOROUGH, as in EXTENSIVE public hearing and investigation, may they all burn ALIVE in hell.

Congress had created PSALM in 2001 to manage the assets and liabilities of Napocor, which was supposed to be dismantled and its assets sold to private investors.

PSALM declared that total debt in 2001 stood at $16.3 billion, while sales of Napocor assets have amounted to $10.6 billion. But as of Dec. 31, 2010, PSALM says total debt still stood at $15.82 billion (P696.08 billion at P44 to the dollar).

It’s CRYSTAL CLEAR that the bulk of the $10.6 billion WAS NOT PAID to outstanding loans. WHY? WHO allowed it?

WHERE was the money spent? WHAT was the justification for practically IGNORING the loans? Where are the records of the disbursements of the $10.6 billion?

PSALM had better not have the FACE, and the STOMACH, to claim that interests of the loans ate up the $10.6 billion.

And remember, friends, apart from the $10.6 billion, Napocor is STILL EARNING from its sale of power to Meralco.

The issue here is not just another increase in power rates.
