WHAT I LIKE ABOUT THE RH BILL!

A friend of mine from Quezon City has just asked me for my thoughts on the Reproductive Health Bill. I told her I’ll only comment on one aspect, for now, but will not support the measure in it's entirety.

I’m for teaching sex education to the young. Kids from all sectors of society, and both in and out of school.

The argument by opponents of this issue that sex education for the young would only encourage improper sexual activity is valid. But I’m afraid the truth already outweighs this line of thinking.

SEXUAL PROMISCUITY is already here. It’s been with us for decades. Definitely, it will not DIE A NATURAL DEATH. And it will take nothing less than Divine Intervention to eradicate it just by anybody’s words.

Pregnant high school or college kids can be found all over the country. A lot end up in homes for unwed mothers. The luckier ones are married by their partners, but more often than not are forced to STOP STUDYING.

Motels accept teen-aged couples without question. Directly or through friends, kids can buy condoms.

Any teenager just has to go into the Internet and presto, a thousand and one sexually explicit web sites are ready for viewing, and downloading or burning on a CD.

And in all these, kids DON’T LEARN the LIFETIME DISADVANTAGES of IRRESPONSIBLE SEX.

They don’t realize the responsibilities or the social scorn that entail unwanted pregnancies and single parenthood. They don’t see the dangers and evil of abortion, or the risks and affects of sexually transmitted diseases.

So consequently, the only thing that matters for them is the pleasure that sex will bring.

This is what must be MINIMIZED, IF NOT STOPPED. If kids can be taught early enough, they will know the MORAL, and CORRECT, approach to sex.

They themselves will AVOID UNWANTED PREGNANCIES and AOBRTIONS. No prodding from anybody will be necessary.

Girls will avoid early or pre-marital sexual activity if they will learn real-life sexual deceptions by guys, the dangers to their health by teen motherhood or abortion and the diseases they can contract with having multiple partners.

Believe me, guys, even grade school kids have already heard or even read about AIDS.

I agree that sexual education for the young is not that easy to accept.

But we only have two choices, boys and girls: Live with the reality of sexual openness and handle it properly\, or stick to the past and watch today’s 5th or 6th graders, or first and second year high school studes, become mothers and parents in a year or two. 30

  1. I AGREE THAT SEX ED MUST BE GIVEN, CONSIDERING THE KNOWLEDGE OF HALF-FACTS THE KIDS CAN OBTAIN IN PUBLIC OR ON THE I'NET. BUT ALSO I AGREE THAT LIFE-COPING FACTS MUST BE INTRODUCED ALONG WITH UNDERSTANDING OF HOW TO MAKE GOOD (AND MORAL) DECISIONS ON INTIMATE MATTERS AS YOU MENTIONED. EVEN MORE NECESSARY IS TO MAKE THE WORDIN OF ANY RH BILL IN SUCH A WAY THAT WILL PREVENT ANY ABORTION MEASURES TO BE INTRODUCED WITHOUT REFERENDUM IN THE FUTURE. ABORTION IN WESTERN COUNTRIES IS KNOWN TO AFFECT NOT ONLY THE BABY, BUT HAVE SERIOUS LONG-TERM MENTAL EFFECTS ON THE ONE WHO SOUGHT IT! - MENTAL AND MORAL INSTABILITY ARE A FEW SIDE-EFFECTS, THE WORST BEING DEATH AFTER THE MURDER OF THE BABY, VIA THE OPERATION HAZARDS ITSELF. OF COURSE THERE ARE SUICIDES FROM AFTER-EFFECTS AS WELL. BUT WE KNOW WOMEN WHO STILL SUFFER 40 YEARS AFTER THE ABORTION, AND HAD BECOME SOCIALLY UNSTABLE, AND UNABLE TO LIVE IN A MARRIAGE, PROMISCUOUS, GONE MAD, OR ALL THE ABOVE! - BUT NEVER THINK ANY BILL PUT FORWARD BY POLITICIANS STOPS AT THE POINT THAT SEEMS TO BE AIMED AT! - THERE ARE ALWAYS (THESE DAYS ESPECIALLY) MORE ULTERIOR MOTIVES BEHIND THE WORDING, THAT DELIBERATELY ALLOW FOR FURTHER MISUSE OF THE ORIGINAL CONCEPT. i THINK THAT HUMAN RIGHTS MUST BE INTRODUCED TO PROTECT ANY HUMAN FROM THE TIME OF CONCEPTION... OTHERWISE A STYLE OF ABORTION COULD BE INTRODUCED, WHICH NOT ONLY TORTURES A BABY TO DEATH IN GRUESOME WAYS, BUT LEADS ULTIMATELY TO KILLING OF THE INVALID, THE PHYSICALLY OR MENTALLY HANDICAPPED - OR SENILE PEOPLE. MANY OF THE ABOVE CAN BE CURED BY HERBS RATHER THAN TOXIC DRUGS ANYHOW --- BUT GOVERNMENTS ARE BEING COERCED TO FOLLOW WESTERN MEDICINE EVEN THOUGH THE SURVIVAL RATE IS FAR TOO LOW, OR TOO SHORT EVEN IF "SUCCESSFUL"!!!

  2. yes, I agree with you Sir Boyet, for one I believe that small knowledge is dangerous...i for one was a victim of that wrong notion...Because not all these were taught in school...i made a reasearch on this before engaging on this act yet it didn't prevent me from getting pregnant at a young age...

there are so many misconceptions when it comes Sex Education...but maybe, strengthening the moral values and principles of our young people will help a lot when Sex Education will be taught in schools...so as not our young will go astray, furthermore to prevent unwanted pregnancies and the end result to it...Moreover, to prevent serious problems like ills of society which have sprung from irresponsible parenthood...We all know that bad fruit doesn't spawn a good one...

  3. Based on my experience of working in urban poor communities and making RH education part and parcel of my holistic approach in providing health services... cases of teen pregnancies, unwanted pregnancies and abortion went down... the end result - healthy two - three children per family with a better chance to finish higher education...

  4. Sex Ed yes, but only on the proper age and to those that needs it. If you gonna tech them to 5th and 6th graders then that is wrong. Letting them know too much about these things too early gives them the notion that there is no need for DISCIPLINE like Abstinence and respect and love of a partner. That should always be thought first. Let us not join the ban wagon created by the WEST regarding Sexual Awakening to their Teens. IF they have not been teaching their teens sex and have not been showing nudity almost 24 hours on TV, they wouldn't need to teach safe sex. Having AIDS already helped us a lot. It makes people think twice if not 3 or 4 times before having sex with just anybody. Have sex with one partner and you'll be ok, have sex with more than one partner and suffer the consequences. There must always be Consequences for act that is not supposed to be done. AIDS, STD are those consequences. Take note that AIDS and STDs are not only acquired through SEX, they are also acquired from other means. That means telling people they are already safe just by using CONDOMS they are already safe and telling them that they are safe to have sex without worrying about getting pregnant is also wrong. We should be teaching kids NOT HAVING SEX until you are ready is SAFE. The problem with teaching kids these WESTERN SAFE SEX bandwagon is that it encourages people to have sex often, and when they encounter an instance that these contraceptives are not available or ready they will still have SEX because they have been use to doing it anytime they like. That's the reason why despite of CONDOMS and PILLS being available in the UNITED STATES they still have tons of unwanted pregnancies!!. That's the reason why we should just lie low on this SEX ED. You encourage them to do it anytime they like and even if protection is not available they will still DO IT!!.

  5. How I wish the Reps. Lagman, Hontiveros and cohorts will delete cancer causing contraceptives considered as essential medicines, and fill it with medicines that can really support the health of pregnant women like vitamins and minerals. And add some provisions that imprison or subject them to hard labor those who impregnated women and not supporting them- this curb promiscuity and teach them the value of women and the unborn which could be consistent to Art. II Sec. 12 of the Constitution, and support and promote the costless Natural Family Planning Method. With this, everyone will be united, unless those guys who just want free condoms and pills will go against it. By the way, it would be good too if sanctioned are imposed on those parents that found irresponsible in their disciplinary duties to their teens who got pregnant. This way, we don't need to overburden the teachers to teach "sex education" because the parents who practiced them responsibly, can teach their children effectively, because no matter how the child is taught by their teachers, if will always see it from their irresponsible parents, the lesson is too hard to learn. Kaya may kasabihan, "kung anong ginawa ng matanda, sa mata ng bata, ito ay tama. Bow.

  7. In my own opinion sex educ. should be taught in school particularly in the secondary level, where most peer pressure and influence is likely to prey on the mind at this adolescent stage. Almost everybody want to try anything if not everything and parental supervision starts to loose its footing, but still with the proper up bringing and the practice of having an open communication is vital and this should be initiated by the parents themselves. Anything is worth discussing a tool that only them could provide, there is no such thing as non sense discussion, sometimes this is just a way for the child to break the ice, a prelude to a much more sensitive issue that he wants to bring up, but afraid because of the usual family norms. With the current fast phase living where everyone is always on the move, time is a commodity...but ironically those who have nothing to do much in their lives produces more offspring...
