NOWHERE ELSE TO GO FOR MERCI!

The bigger problem resigned Ombudsman Merci Gutierrez will have to face in the coming days is CREDIBILITY.

Even if she had indeed quit out of pressure and for time to attend to her dying mother and sick husband, the circumstances surrounding her sudden resignation will always leave room for doubt.

That doubt will trigger speculations on her every move from now on.

Merci had boldly and repeatedly declared she will not resign. Her defiance even went to the point of publicly criticizing and questioning the impartiality of the congressmen pressing for her ouster.

When she suddenly announced she was quitting, and went to Malacanang to personally hand over her resignation letter to President Noynoy, everybody was caught by surprise including her supporters.

We’re all humans so family members will always be a priority.

But with the intensity of the defense mounted by her congressmen-supporters during the impeachment, one can’t help but suspect if Merci had indeed been belabored by the ailments of her mom and husband.

I’m not concluding anything. My point is if she were, then she could have revealed this to her congressmen-allies and surely their approach to the impeachment would have been totally different.

They would have probably even advised her to step down as Ombudsman right from the start.

Better yet, Merci should have quit immediately the moment Noynoy publicly declared his desire for her ouster. But she didn’t and, like a tiger, instead mounted a ferocious fight.

One doesn’t change from a tiger to a lamb overnight. So now, not everybody is buying the story about her sick mom and husband.

For personally delivering her resignation letter to Noynoy, Merci’s loyalty will be doubtful from now for her allies and benefactors.

The Aquino Government won’t take anything she says hook, line and sinker either, having been a protégée of the former president for so many years.

For the public, if Merci can change plans in one click, there’s no assurance that she won’t do it again. Her words, therefore, will be deemed unreliable.

She will have nowhere else to go.

I know that prior to that, Merci was seen at the house of one high ranking official. A neighbor told this to me.

The woman has already resigned. Let's stop na. Now na...Kailangan pa bang itulak na naman siya sa libingan? Then after, we praise her. Like what they did with Angie (Reyes)?

ARCHIE GRAPA of Manila

Resignation doesn't absolve you of any criminal liability. If she decides to kill herself in the process, so be it. She'll be the killer anyway. Let her do it because our laws can't.

EDUARDO VERSOLA

She should have not resigned but for the nation and people’s sake...she is right. No time must be wasted, especially now that we are hammered by spiraling costs of almost all expenses while the government is doing nothing to upgrade the filipinos' living condition.

I pity her. She was used and dumped. I didn’t want her to resign. I wanted her to fight until the end for us to know more. I don't want allegations, I want the square and spade; not the rhetoric of many decorated with blah and blah without basis and  could not even hold water like a container. She won? No. We lost the gambit. We lost our money. We were fooled like a child,

YOLANDA HERRING of Coffs Harbour, New South WaleS

I think impeachment (trial) was a lot better.

DAVID CHAVARRIA of Baguio City

Another ploy of GMA and her cohorts to keep her off the hook.
