PROTECT YOURSELF AGAINST FISH KILL!

QUESTION OF THE DAY:

Instead of the RH Bill, what alternatives would you recommend to control population growth and why?

***

In case you missed it in the news, three more towns in Batangas have been struck with fish kill.

So let’s go light this time with these basic reminders on how you can protect yourself and your loved ones against ‘double-dead’ fish and other seafood items:

As much as possible, AVOID BUYING BANGUS AND TILAPIA for now since these are the two species with the most number of fatalities in the fish kill.

In buying fish and other seafood, bring along somebody with you as much as possible, preferably one who really knows how to determine a ‘double-dead’ fish just by the looks and smell.

If you’re buying alone, examine the seafood VERY, VERY CAREFULLY before having it weighed and placed in your shopping cart. Disregard the item if it has an unusual odor and appearance, no matter how negligible it may be.

If another customer is beside you, don’t be shy to ask for a second opinion.

Buy only from those who have proven their honesty and quality of their products to you for the last several years. And NEVER, EVER be lured simply by the cheap price.

I saw on television news days ago that a mother from Pangasinan bought bangus for her kids despite the fish kill because it only cost P20 a kilo.

Hours later, her daughter ended up in the hospital due to severe nausea and vomiting.

Start asking your mayors or city and town health officers for seminars and reference materials on how to detect seafood items from fish kill areas and first aid measures in case somebody in the family gets poisoned.

Lastly, listen to or read the news regularly for updates on the fish kill phenomenon

Twenty of our friends on “If God can forgive, why can’t the anti-Marcos”:

ANTONIO CRISTOBAL of Manila

Bakit hindi nila gawin ito? Madali lang naman, hindi ba? Too much politics and too much democracy, sabi nga ni (former Singaporean Prime Minister) Lee Kuan Yew kaya hindi na umusad-usad ang bansa natin.

JORGE PHILIP of Mississauga, Ontario, Canada

I think Marcos did what he thought was best for the country. The corruption charges may have been committed, but nothing more than what had and has been happening under other administrations. It’s only that Marcos' long stay in Malacanang magnified these charges.

RAUL VALENZUELA of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia

There is a day of judgment that is the last hour.. The sin against God is different from those of human beings. Marcos is anti-God and anti people!

ABDULGHANI SALAPUDDIN

Are the Christians unforgiving and vindictive? When a person is already dead, all his civil and criminal liabilities are deemed terminated. No one, not even the Aquinos or the Church, has a monopoly or franchise on love for country.

ARTHUR LIMSIACO of Nagoya-shi, Aichi, Japan

Burial at the Libingan ng mga Bayani and full military honors? i- share muna nila ang wealth nila sa taongbayan para patas! Para bayani talaga.

CAMON EILLOR

Politicians boast of UNITING the people. The clergy preaches if God can forgive, so must man. But these words are not their real thoughts. These are the same people who take grudges to the graves. For them Marcos did nothing good for the country. May God enlighten them and open their hearts and mind.

MERIT SALUD of Bloomfield, New Jersey, USA

Forgive? Done, long time ago ! Change the AFP Manual but not our history!

WINSTON TIZON of New Manila, Quezon City

Alright, that person had behaved badly toward you. But, haven't you behaved worse toward God?

ARCHIE GRAPA of Manila

I don't think the issue is about forgiveness. It's been done. Forgiving is one thing. Honoring is another. Let's just follow what's legal.

VIRGINIA ADUCA of Toronto, Ontario, Canada

The family of FM should go ahead and do the burial either in his hometown or in Libingan ng ma Bayani. It's really been long overdue and everybody should move on.

ISAGANI MACARAIG of San Pascual, Batangas

Marcos died disallowing certain truth to come out. Did he mastermind the assassination of Ninoy and is he culpable for the thousands of deaths and disappearances of his so-called enemies of the state? The answers we will never know.

ARMANDO DAVID JR. of San Fernando, Pampanga

It's time for us to accept and forgive those who have wronged us. I know the pain and sufferings that were brought about by Martial Law. But this is the time to UNITE for the COMMON GOOD and move FORWARD.

KEITH HARCOURT

Have you ever noticed how, after confessing your sins, the priest replies: “May God give you pardon and peace and I absolve you from your sins in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." (But) There is still the penance to be done. Leaving them undone, where is God's pardon and peace? Pinoys should think more rationally on how God forgives and imitate Him. Why give an honor to a thief who has not even returned a single penny of his thievery?

JOSIE PATAWARAN of Hong Kong

ROGELIO ROBERTO of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

Let justice be served. Let the people speak out if they can forgive and forget the late President. Let him be buried in ilocos where he was born.

MARIA CHATTON

FM had done good deeds to our country. Only those who are pretending to be good are evil. I’ts time to move on. If you don't believe in karma, then so be it. But me, i believe that God has already given us too much time to think.

BOY NERI OF Irvine, California

I agree. We pride ourselves to be the only Christian nation in Asia so let us act like one! Also, the late president qualifies to the requirements for a burial at the LB and the AFP Manual for full military honors does not bar him from receiving it. For those who keep on raising the issue of human rights violations, go to the website of Amnesty International and compare his record with that of Cory and Gloria.

JUAN DELA CRUZ

Even NPA co-founder (Bernabe) Buscayno is still alive (and) living in Tarlac now! You keep on demonizing the last president who had vision for his country.

FREEDOM MADERAZO of Pasig

Full military honors as respect for a former president and soldie. But it would be adding insult to injury to human rights and torture victims, and to the tdesaparacidos, if we let him be buried in the Libingan Ng Mga Bayani! He is not a hero but a tyrant. 30
